The Takedown – Book Review

I recently read The Takedown by Corrie Wang which should come out in the spring. I read a review copy compliments of Netgalley and it should be published this spring. I am not being paid to give this review.

This story is about a high school girl who seems obsessed with the internet along with all of her peers. Someone posts a fake video that goes viral showing her having sex with a teacher. No one believes it is altered but the girl finds out that her online account has been hacked and how easy it is for people to do something like this. It also shows how something like this can affect every aspect of your life, even your future.

This book is a great book for high school students to read! There are some mentions of sex but nothing explicit. What a great book to open up discussions about online safety! It also makes students aware of how their online profile can affect their acceptance into college and even career choices. It was real life and relevant to all high school students! It should also alert teachers to how easily their accounts could be hacked and how it could affect their lives!

I could see this book offered in a school library! It would be a great novel for seniors to read as a class. I would highly recommend this for parents and teachers also.
