Creative Storm 2022

Here is information about the Creative Storm 2022 Video Contest:

“Put a little creativity into a video teaching any concept one might encounter in elementary, middle, or high school, and keep it to 90 seconds or less. It can be about sculpture, negative numbers, supply and demand, alternative energy, adverbs, or anything else for which you have a clever insight. Read the full rules, and if you click in the right place, you can get some hints.

This is really three contests: one for students, one for teachers, and one for collaborations between the two (as when students plan and/or act and the teacher edits). These get judged separately, and we'll be passing out prizes to the finalists and winners of each.”

Deadline and Prize Info:

“Each video and its entry form(s) must be submitted by 11:59p on Friday, December 16, 2022. There is a small bonus in scoring for those videos submitted by 11:59p on Friday, November 18, 2022.

Certificates! Amazon cards! International glory! This last piece is a bit abstract, but hopefully of value to you. 8^)”

Student Video Contest

“CEE’s Student Video Contest in celebration of Economic Education Month (October 2022).

Give your students the chance to think about the many cool and interesting ways economics is part of their lives while showing off their economics smarts and creativity in CEE’s student video contest!

Submit videos (60 seconds or less) of your students answering the question: 

“How is economics part of my everyday life?”.

You and your students could win cash prizes and more!

• Entries must be submitted by teachers on behalf of their students.
• There is no limit on the number of videos a teacher may submit for their class.
• Videos may feature one or multiple students.

All entries are due: October 19, 2022, 11:59 PM ET.

Prizes: one winner will be chosen in each of the following grade bands: K-4; 5-8; 9-12.

• Teachers will each receive: $500 Amex gift cards
• Each student in the video will receive a $50 Amex gift card

Winners will be announced on Friday, October 28, 2022.

NY Times Student Podcast Contest

I thought this looked interesting and that students, ages 11 - 19, might find this interesting also.

“In our Fifth Annual Podcast Contest, we invite teenagers to submit original podcasts of five minutes or less. Your creation can be about anything that interests you, in any form that you like. Our favorites will be featured on The Learning Network.”

Rules include:

• “Create a podcast that produces a complete listening experience with a clear beginning, middle and ending.
• You can use any podcast format or genre.
• Podcasts must be five minutes or less.
• Your podcast must be original for this contest.
• Create your podcast by yourself or with a group, but please submit only one entry per student.
• Use appropriate language.
• Be sure to use non-copyrighted sound effects or music, with some exceptions.
• Upload your podcast to SoundCloud to make it easier for our judges to listen to your work.
• You must meet our eligibility requirements to participate.”

Student Cam 2022

Student Cam Contest

“StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation.

For the 2021/2022 school year, we are asking students in grades 6-12 to create a short (5-6 minute) video documentary on a topic that relates to the competition theme, "How does the federal government impact your life?"

The submission deadline for all entries will be Thursday, January 20, 2022. With cash prizes totaling $100,000 each year, C-SPAN awards prizes to the top 150 student documentaries. If you are a teacher and listed as an adviser on one of the top 50 winning films, you will also receive a cash award. Since 2004, C-SPAN has awarded over $1.2 million dollars in cash prizes to students and teachers.



"How does the federal government impact your life?"

Explore a federal policy or program that has an impact on you or your community. Evaluate the effectiveness of this policy or program by researching multiple perspectives on it.

The competition is open to all students in grades 6-12. Grades 6-8 compete in the Middle School category, and grades 9-12 compete in the High School category. For more information, visit our Prizes page.

Students may compete individually, or in teams of either 2 or 3 members.

Documentaries must include clips of supporting or opposing C-SPAN video that relate to the chosen topic.

Winning StudentCam documentaries will thoroughly explore a variety of viewpoints related to the chosen topic, including those that may oppose the filmmakers points of view. We recommend that you interview experts on your chosen subject.

Documentaries must be between 5-6 minutes in length. *End credits, if applicable, must begin after the 5-minute mark but are permitted to run longer than the allotted 6-minute time frame.

Entries must include either end credits or a works cited list. Students can use whichever format they currently use to cite their sources.

Doodle for Google Contest

The Doodle for Google contest has started again. Grades K-12 can enter the contest.

“We're excited to see some strong doodles this year! Students can work with any materials they want, but all doodles must be entered using the entry form. Parents and teachers can mail us the completed entry form or submit it online as a .png, or .jpg. The contest is open for entries until February 26, 2021 11:59pm Pacific Time (PT)…

Doodles will be judged on the following parameters:

Artistic merit: Based on artistic skill

Creativity: Representation of the contest theme, use of the letters in the Google logo, and the unique approach to the doodle

Theme communication: How well the contest theme is expressed in both the artwork and the written statement

Doodles will be grouped and judged by the following 5 grade groups:

• Grades K-3
• Grades 4-5
• Grades 6-7
• Grades 8-9
• Grades 10-12

Finalists will be judged on a state-by-state basis as described below.

• State and Territory Winners:10 or more winners for each grade group, 54 in total
• National Finalists:1 finalist for each grade group, 5 in total
• National Winner: Featured on Google.com”

SC Wildlife Student Essay Contest

I recently got an email about a contest that I thought your class would be interested in entering.

“South Carolina Wildlife student essay contest deadline is April 30.

If you are a college or high school student who enjoys the outdoors, why not enter the 2019 South Carolina Wildlife magazine outdoor writing contest? The deadline is 5 p.m. on April 30.

South Carolina Wildlife (SCW) magazine is proud to announce its inaugural personal essay contest which aims to feature the best college and high school nature writing. Essays should be nonfiction, with a focus on the outdoors, and between 800 and 1,500 words. The winner will receive a $250 prize, made possible by the Harry Hampton Wildlife Fund, and publication on the SouthCarolinaWild.org website and in South Carolina Wildlife magazine during 2019. The top five submissions will be featured on SouthCarolinaWild.org.

The SCW Essay Contest seeks stories which celebrate South Carolina’s natural resources, have a strong sense of place and use descriptive language. Similarly, we like stories about wildlife, landscape and outdoor activities with a refreshing perspective on nature/the outdoors. The contest is open to currently enrolled college and high school students. The SCW Essay Contest is unable to accept simultaneous submissions. SCW only accepts original, unpublished work.

All submissions should be double-spaced in twelve point Times New Roman font. Finally, please include a cover page with your name, address, email, phone number and high school or university. We look forward to reading your best writing!

2019 judges include the staff of South Carolina Wildlife magazine and a panel of SCW freelance writers. Submissions or questions should be sent by email to SCW magazine Managing Editor, Cindy Thompson, thompsonc@dnr.sc.gov. The deadline is 5 p.m. on April 30.
