Useful Information In and Out of the Classroom 3/30/18

Here are some interesting sites that I’ve found this week, thanks to my PLN. As a teacher, I feel we have to keep up to date concerning research in our field and current issues in the education system. I hope some of these inspire you, inform you, and even have you asking questions. Thank you for coming by and visiting!

Note: Each resource is labeled with a level and subject area to make it easier to use.

Levels:  E: Elementary; M: Middle; H: High; G: General, all levels; SN: Special Needs; T: Teachers

Subject Areas: LA: Language Arts, English, Reading, Writing; M: Math; S: Science; Health; SS: Social Studies, Current Events; FA: Fine Arts; Music, Art, Drama; FL: Foreign Language; PE: Physical Ed; C: Career; A: All

Puppet Master – “PuppetMaster is an animation app for kids, where you can bring to life any image, just by acting things out in front of the camera or touching the screen. Your voice is recorded as well. The result is your own animated video!” (L:E; SA:A)

How inventions change history (for better and for worse) – a TED-ed lesson; “Invented in 1793, the cotton gin changed history for good and bad. By allowing one field hand to do the work of 10, it powered a new industry that brought wealth and power to the American South -- but, tragically, it also multiplied and prolonged the use of slave labor. Kenneth C. Davis lauds innovation, while warning us of unintended consequences.” (L:H; SA:SS)

Cup Stacking Game – “Cup Stack Keyboarding is a fun game for children to practice typing quickly. Stack and un-stack the cups by typing the keyboard characters on them. Children should try to use the home row ASDF JKL; while playing.” (L:E; SA:A)

Quote Integration – video for students using quotes in their writing (L:H; SA:LA)

Free Shots – “tons of free photos” (L:G; SA:A)
