The Field Guides Podcasts

“Nature nerds rejoice! The Field Guides is a monthly podcast that will bring you out on the trail, focusing on the science of our North American wildlife.”

Recently I found the audio podcast – The Field Guides Podcast. You can get the show notes on their blog: The Field Guides.  They are on Instagram - @Thefieldguidespodcast and YouTube – The Field Guides Podcast.

I like to listen to audio podcasts when I’m traveling or when I’m exercising or going on long walks. This monthly show last roughly about an hour and they are not only informational but they are entertaining.

Steve and Bill are the hosts and do quite a lot of research on the topics they talk about. According to the “About Us” section on their site, Steve was “Born and raised in western NY, Steve has an undergraduate degree in philosophy (with a focus on logic and ethics) and an upcoming graduate degree in biology (focusing on the interactions between aquatic plants and larval fish). He started the podcast partly because he felt like he needed a mental break from fisheries research. While Steve is not preparing for or editing an episode of The Field Guides, he's probably listening to other podcasts, reading manga, or hiking with a few field guides in tow.” There wasn’t a lot of information about Bill but he seems quite knowledgeable too.

Bill and Steve pick a different nature topic and go to a natural spot to share with you some information about that topic. As they describe things along their hike, you can see in your mind what they are seeing. Their notes are well written, and they even cite the works that they used.

Recent topics they cover include cicadas, bioluminescence fungi, and jack-in-the-pulpits. I look forward to seeing what they talk about during the fall season.

If you get a chance, check out this podcast. It is well worth listening to.

If you listen to this, what do you think about it? Please share.
